Privacy & cookies

This page covers both CoTerran properties: CoTerran Nexus (this platform) and coterran.co (the CoTerran publication, run on Ghost). One consent choice covers both — the banner you answer on either site is remembered by the other. Policy version 2026-07.

What we collect, and why

On Nexus, without an account: nothing personal. The site sets no analytics cookies and runs no trackers. Two browser preferences are kept on your device only (see the cookie table below).

On Nexus, when you register: your email address, your chosen handle, and the terms version you accepted — the minimum needed to run an account. No name, no phone, no address. Email verification is being added; email is used to link a paid coterran.co membership to subscriber access (same address on both), for the newsletter only if you opt in, and for nothing else.

Your survey and forecast responses are stored against your account so you can see your own history and accuracy. They are published only as cohort aggregates (anonymous / registered / expert), with a minimum-response threshold below which we report "insufficient responses" instead of a number. Individual responses are never published, shared, or sold — the platform's own analysts see them only through the aggregation pipeline.

On coterran.co: Ghost handles membership (email, name if you give one, newsletter delivery, and billing for paid memberships — card details are held by the payment processor, not by us). If you register to comment, Ghost stores your comment profile. Readership analytics run on Tinybird — aggregate page-view counts — and only load if you allow analytics in the consent banner.

"Essential" cookies are those the sites cannot function without — signing in, remembering your choice itself. They carry no advertising and are never shared with third parties.

Your choices

Retention and deletion

Accounts and responses are kept while the account is active. You can delete your account yourself from the account page: your email and handle are removed immediately, every signed-in session is revoked, and your responses are retained only in irreversibly aggregated form under an opaque identifier. The account page also offers "sign out everywhere", which invalidates every session for your account at once. Consent records are retained as a legal record of the choice that was in force. Ghost membership data is deleted from coterran.co's member settings or by emailing the operator.

Email verification

We verify your email with a short code before anything is linked to it — in particular, a paid coterran.co membership only attaches subscriber access to a verified address, so no one can claim your benefits by typing your email into the registration form.

What we never do

No advertising cookies. No sale or sharing of personal data. No individual forecasts or survey answers published, ever. No tracking across other websites.

This page is editable at docs/privacy.md (operator console → content editor). The Ghost-site banner is installed from infra/ghost/consent-snippet.html.
